We were headed for a four day seminar in Bellevue and were given a list of nice
hotels nearby. None of the hotels allowed smoking in the room, so I kept up my
search. Finally found a hotel unknown to me, but after looking at reviews
decided to give it a try.
Many hotels are noisy from road traffic if you want to keep your window open.
This was no exception, so after the first night, we asked to be changed to a
room on the backside of the hotel facing a hillside with trees. Perfecto. I am a
light sleeper and always travel with earplugs for any other annoyances, like
forgetting to turn off the ice maker before going to bed. The bed was
wonderfully comfortable with an assortment of pillows to choose from!!!! Both my
better half and I had ones we liked.
A few amenities which I thought were just nice touches: cookies on a tray
throughout the day at the front desk (sometimes warm!), excellent coffee and an
assortment of teas with half and half for anytime of the day of night, a clean
laundry room you can use for free, enough kitchen items to make a nice meal,
business center in the lobby where you can get copies for free of whatever you
may need, front desk assistance with things to do (making mapquest directions
for your adventures), great gym and a shuttle bus to take you within five miles
of the hotel. They also have a hot tub, but didn't have time to try it out.
Animals are welcomed, but call the hotel for the particulars on this.
If you just want to get outside for awhile, there is a trail behind the hotel
which goes up a hill. I was told it was about a mile walk. Bellevue Botanical
Gardens on Main Street was lovely to stroll through and close enough to use the
shuttle. If you want to travel about 20 miles, you can head out to an Indian
Casino. Downtown Bellevue has a hamburger joint called The Five Brothers which
is excellent with healthy burgers and vegetarian burgers. We ate at two Thai
restaurants which were both really good. I went to China Spa and had a one hour
massage for $25. This is an unusual massage set up, but the gal who worked on me
was great at deep tissue work. My body was joyful afterwards. Be sure to take
bottled water for after your rub. Look up reviews on internet so you know what
to expect.
If you are renting a car for your trip, make sure you know where to get gas for
fill up BEFORE you leave the airport area and remember this is a very busy area,
so allow enough time. Otherwise you could be stuck with paying an exorbitant
amount for gasoline used (we paid $7.99 a gallon because we were late and didn't
have time to fill up ourselves- YIKES!). We used Budget Rent-A-Car.
The Sea-Tac Airport is huge and I didn't see one conveyer belt for transporting
passengers down the long passageways. When we were leaving late Sunday night,
security lines were very long, so don't fudge on your timing.

For our first trip with our 3 month old baby, we booked a one bedroom suite for
2 nights since we had all this baby gear including the bassinet stroller and car
seat and we figured one of us could sleep on the couch if the baby cried in the
night if required.
First issue - Upon check-in, we were told there were no more one bedroom suites
left and were given a studio. Normally we are easy but with the baby and being
exhausted from the day's drive, we were disappointed. The front desk was
apologetic and confirmed it was the hotel who made the mistake but since they
were full, could only move us the second night.
I called front desk the next morning to ask them if we would be getting the
one-bedroom suite and I had to explain to the front desk again that we had
booked this originally and that no, we were not asking for an upgrade. The front
desk woman was very friendly and said that she would arrange that for us no
problem, to leave the bags in our current room, and that our room would be ready
upon our return.
Second issue - When we returned that evening, we were finally checked into the
bigger room but were put at the very last room at the end of the hall. This
would not have been a problem except when we took a shower, the water was only
lukewarm and if felt like I was taking a cold shower and the tub was clogged. We
ended up just wiping down our baby with towels instead.
Third issue - My husband ended up sleeping outside on the couch while the baby
(in his own bassinet) slept in the bedroom with me. I noticed a few bug bites on
my right arm when we retired for the evening so figured I had got it during the
day but was so tired after putting the baby to sleep (and the cold shower) that
didn't think much of it. (Note that when we first entered the room in the
afternoon, the windows were all open). When I woke up, my left arm and my hands
had bites on them. I quickly checked my baby in the bassinet and thankfully he
had none. My husband also had none. But Mom had a total of 15 bites - 6 on my
hands, 5 on my right arm and 4 on my left arm. Not fun when you have to pick up
a baby all day. My husband took pictures of me.
We checked out and the friendly woman at front desk did ask how our stay went
and I told her about the issues in the room because I didn't want the next hotel
guest to go thru the same experience that we did. (We had an even colder shower
in the morning since there were more people using all the hot water). She was
apologetic and got my phone number. Unfortunately we haven't heard back. When we
told our American friends that morning (we're Canadian), they were horrified and
said that we should have got some sort of compensation at the very least. We
weren't thinking that.
Honestly I was not going to post anything on trip advisor if the management had
simply called us to apologize but they have not. We were even nice and
understanding about everything upon check-out. On a positive, the staff were
nice and the breakfast was definitely decent. But definitely not staying here
again. |
