About Leavenworth

Originally known as Icicle, the township was renamed after Captain Charles Leavenworth, president of the Okanagon Investment Company (one of the first commercial developers in this area of Washington), and a stockholder in the Great Northern Railway.

With an intense commitment from its citizens, the town was resurrected as a replica Bavarian Village set high in the Alp like Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Now Leavenworth offers authentic Bavarian architecture, German clothed natives and year round festivals to compliment its striking setting.

Leavenworth’s shops are filled with Bavarian and other delights from around the world. A wide variety of international as well as German restaurants are scattered across town.

Visitors flock to town for weeks of Oktober-fest and Christmas lighting. In the winter, Ice fest, annual holidays, skiing and snow activities keep things buzzing.

Later in the year, window boxes and maypoles announce the return of spring at Maifest. Summer is a bright sunny time with hiking, biking and outdoor fun. A large festhalle accommodates weddings, dances and group events. For its growth, beauty and hospitable smile Leavenworth has won dozens of national travel awards. Visitors come from around the corner and around the world to see what has often been called Miracle town. A place where the generosity of its inhabitants outweighs all the other wonderful things it offers.
