Hotel Review of the Inn at Harbor Steps Seattle

Wow, I never knew an adult is anyone over 5 years old. That's what this place
considers an adult and they charge $25 per child. I guess that covers the
breakfast, although what 6 year old can eat $25 worth of breakfast. Nice place
though. In the middle of everything. Parking is pricey.

The staff was gracious and welcoming, breakfast buffet was under-described -
it's delicious and the inn dining room is very comfortable for settling into a
wing chair to read the paper after breakfast; loved the wine/tea time in the
library, a wonderful way for the tootsies and oneself to recover after a day of
touring.
The room was spotlessly clean, big French window looking out onto the formal
private garden, 2 fuzzy towel robes in the closet, and the teddy bear on the bed
was a charming addition.
There couldn't be a better location for an urban exploration of Seattle: Seattle
Art Museum across the street, Pike Marketplace down the handsome Harbor Steps,
Aquarium down just a bit farther the steps to Alaskan Way. Pioneer Square a
brisk 15 minute walk to the right, 15 minutes beyond that to the International
District and the Luke Wing Museum (a must see), and across the street, up the
hill, and a few blocks to the left and you're at the marvellous Public Library
in downtown and the luxury shopping malls plus the entrance to the Monorail to
the Space Needle.
The Inn at Harbor Steps is much more like a family-operated B&B than a hotel;
the staff leaves around 6 pm and comes in at 7:30 am but the gracious apartment
security guard is there.
Computer available for printing boarding passes and an excellent Town Car for
returning to the airport.
Am I staying again? Wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Hotel Review of the Inn at Harbor Steps Seattle

We just spent a weekend at the Inn at Harbour Steps and were very disappointed.
We had previously stayed at a Four Sisters Inn in California and had an amazing
experience, so we thought that another hotel from the same chain would offer the
same experience. The Inn in California was bright, clean, comfortable and the
service was excellent. Everything that the Inn at Harbour Steps was not. The
hotel room was nothing like the pictures on the website and didn't match the
description even closely. The room was quite dark and poorly furnished. The
fireplace was in a location that you couldn't sit in front of and the shams on
the bed were badly stained. It was an old, dark and "well worn" room that didn't
exactly make for a pleasant and inviting weekend.
The hotel advertized wine and cheese reception every evening. Good luck on that
one! When we participated about 30 minutes after the advertised start, there was
no cheese left, no crackers, no fruit or veggies left, no clean wine glasses and
very little wine. After washing two glasses at the sink, we each had one glass
of wine before the wine was completely finished and guests were wandering around
looking for refills. I went to the front desk to ask for someone to replenish
the cheese and wine. After a phone call to someone, one carafe of white wine
appeared after 20 minutes. No red wine, no cheese or crackers or fruit. The
excuse the next day was that they only have a set amount of fruit, cheese and
crackers, and they have nobody available to prepare more.
The breakfast was OK, but the server in the kitchen was completely stressed out
trying to keep up with the guests eating and requesting clean dishes and
cutlery.
We did send an e-mail to the hotel management detailing our experience, but we
had no reply. I guess they just weren't interested in hearing our feedback.
On a positive note, the Inn's location in Seattle is good. Close to shopping and
restaurants. It could be better with a considerable amount of updating of the
rooms, at least to our room. Plus the service attitude needs to change and the
wine and cheese reception needs to be properly staged. Someone needs to be in
attendance to replenish the goodies and make everyone feel more welcome. We will
not be returning.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn at Harbor Steps for two nights. It was the
perfect location - just steps from the quaint Pike's Market where you can find
such interesting boutiques to explore. The hotel was delightful for many
reasons. It boasts a quiet and serene atmosphere and beautiful decor. It is very
secure and the parking is very reasonable - only $18.00 a night which is unheard
of for downtown Seattle! We definitely plan on going back. When we do, we will
make sure to call and speak to Long - he was a terrific concierge! He was not
only helpful and courteous but he was a plethora of information about Seattle
and the surrounding amenities.
Thanks for the great stay Long!

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary. I chose it because of the good
reviews and its proximity to Pike Place Market and the Seattle Waterfront. The
location proved very useful on that score, especially as a way to avoid finding
an overpriced parking space near the aforementioned places (which limit you to 2
hours). On the flipside, $18 a day to park in their garage seems a bit steep. At
least there was no valet to take more of my money for parking my car.
The room was attractive, clean and comfortable, with a few notable exceptions:
Since the “Inn” occupies the two lowest floors (The Harbor Step Apartments and
main floor occupy the 20 floors above them.), the room was so close to the
“Steps” themselves that we were disturbed by loud passersby and clanking service
carts until late that night. The room was also stuffy (especially with the door
closed to keep the noise down) and both the air conditioner and ceiling fan were
positioned so far from the bed that that they were of limited use. Once the
noise died down, we were not disturbed and the bed was reasonably comfortable,
though a bit small for a King. The bathroom was elegant and well-stocked and the
two “plush robes” provided were nice.
The staff was friendly and helpful when called upon, so no complaints there.
Other amenities, such as the sauna, gym and hot tub were very useful, but the
“free drinks and hors d'oeuvres” they put out in the “library” were
underwhelming, especially for non-drinkers, consisting mostly of bland cheeses
and odd salads. The complimentary breakfast was much better, featuring a variety
of baked goods, breakfast casseroles, French toast and juices. However, only one
employee was expected to cook, clean tables and assist guests. He eventually had
to call the desk clerk for help and everyone had to wait for more food to be set
out. With the rates the Inn charges, they should spend more on help for the two
hours breakfast is served.
Overall, our experience at the Inn was pleasant, but not five-star, nor quite up
to the rate we paid. I’m not saying we won’t return, but other hotels in the
area will be considered first.

would highly recommend this inn. the price was great, the room was great, the
location was great, and the breakfast was the best we've ever had in an inn or
hotel. David at the front desk was most accommodating and overall we would
recommend this inn very highly. |
