Hotel Review of the Springhill Suites Downtown Seattle

It is nice that the hotel is Downtown, but it is on the outskirts nestled right
up against the freeway. One of the staff members was quite rude, which was
unfortunate. We didn't spend much time at the hotel at all except to sleep. It
has a nice little indoor pool and jacuzzi, and always has hot tea and coffee in
the lobby area.

I stayed at the SpringHill Suites when I traveled to Seattle to run the
marathon. The hotel was recently renovated, so the lobby, bar & restaurant areas
were pleasing to the eye. The rooms were nice as well, but they were definitely
basic/bare bones. The free continental breakfast was great, but the food at the
restaurant for lunch, dinner and room service was just mediocre. Worth it to eat
there at the bar for reduced price bar snacks/light bites during happy hour, but
would not recommend eating there otherwise for the price. That being said, it's
at least a 10 minute walk to any other decent restaurant, so you may feel forced
to dine there for the convenience. You can tell that they have tried hard to
make this hotel better. The decor in the common areas was very pleasant/modern,
and the space did seem quite clean/well-maintained. However, I felt that the
management missed the mark on several key issues. Most obviously, they had NO
idea whatsoever that there was a marathon in the city that weekend, and offered
no service to the hundreds of runners that were staying at the hotel. It seems
insane that they would not have known such a major event was taking place. The
hotel typically runs a "convenience shuttle" to other nearby areas of the city
(basically designed to prevent you from walking around the less-than-desirable
neighborhood where it's located), but refused to run the shuttle once earlier in
the morning on race day to get runners (who had to head to the race area before
daybreak) to the race area. This seemed like a very major miss, and a sign of
bigger things that were lacking as far as the management of the establishment.
Overall, I will say that they tried hard, were willing to work with the guests,
and very pleasant. But, I would definitely recommend staying closer to the more
touristy areas of town and away from the run-down bus depot area where this
hotel is located.Hotel Review of the Springhill Suites Downtown Seattle

Location convenient for getting on and off I5 but otherwise not central. Between
downtown and Seattle Center. Not a lot of restaurants close by. Configuration of
room a bit odd. Sofa bed is too small for 2 kids. Bathroom dated. We'd a soccer
and volleyball teams on a Sat am and the breakfast room was overwhelmed. Not
enough chairs for everyone. |

Our family stayed in the Springfield Suites prior to and after our Alaska
cruise. The hotel is in great condition and within walking distance (about a
mile) of the waterfront and Pike Place Market. The room works well for a family
with college-age children and the buffet breakfast is certainly a money saver.
We were extremely grateful that the hotel allows early check-in since most
cruise ships return to Seattle in the early morning. I would recommend this
hotel for family stays in downtown Seattle. |

We recently spent one night pre cruise at this hotel. We had never been to
Seattle so we wanted to check out the sights and were a little concerned that
this hotel was too far away from everything. We learned that this hotel had a
shuttle that took us downtown and pretty much to anywhere we wanted to go. We
walked back from downtown and it took about 30 minutes but we enjoy walking. The
people on the front desk were very helpful from getting directions to calling a
cab for us the next morning. The breakfast was pretty good and not at all like
it was described on another review. To sum it up we definitely made a good
decision to stay here and would stay here again in the future.

This hotel is definitely newer for being so close to Seattle Center and
downtown. Service and personnel were all excellent. Had heard of issues being so
close to I-5, but did not have any disturbances from traffic. A short walk to
the market or waterfront and complimentary shuttle service to Seattle Center is
very convenient. The room was spacious, clean and well-appointed. Definitely
will stay here again whether it is for business or leisure. |

The room was large, quiet and clean. The breakfast had a large selection of
items. The food consisted of good, basic breakfast items: eggs, cereals, fruit,
yogurt, sausage, eggs, muffins, etc. It was an easy walk to the Convention
Center and a free shuttle went there as well, although only once/hour. My only
complaint was about lost and found run by housekeeping. After checking out, I
thought that I had left something in my room. I called twice. leaving voice mail
messages with housekeeping. My calls were never returned. |

PLUS: Breakfast buffet: hot eggs and meats, yogurts in two sizes and including
low-carb, breads, muffins, make-own waffles, hard eggs, potatoes, hot oatmeal
and toppings, cold cereals and juices; excellent coffee/tea in breakfast room
and lobby (24 hours). Totally non-smoking, like all Marriotts. Open two-computer
business center off lobby, including printer. Flawless free wired and wireless
internet in rooms, wireless in lobby. Newspaper outside door on weekdays, in
lobby on weekends. Inside pool and hot tub. Free access to huge 24-hour fitness
across the street. Starbucks (closed weekends) across the street. Walk to
midtown or downtown or Pike Market; hotel provides by-reservation shuttle on the
hour with stops at Westlake Center, Space Needle, Convention Center. A huge REI
and upscale shops (and BLIX, probably one of Seattle’s best spa spaces) one
block. Public transportation on Denny (#8 bus) runs between Cap Hill and Queen
Anne, past Seattle Center. Valet parking only, with modest rates for short-term
visitors, $20 overnight. Recent (fabulous) lobby, breakfast room and bar
renovation. Exceptionally helpful and friendly employees. Quiet despite extreme
proximity to freeway. Coin laundry with several machines for guests, 2nd floor;
$1 each wash and dry when I was there. Priceline 2.5 or 3-star, South Lake
Union, $65-72 in winter/spring (desk was quoting $109 to walk-ins one day of my
stay); higher in summer/fall. Hotel is owned by a TX company but
Marriott-branded; in most of these hotels, Marriott provides management training
and staff is well-trained.
MINUS: Constant traffic on Yale Avenue can make vehicle exit risky and
difficult. At all costs avoid driving at commuter hours (morning or 3-6). Valet
and front desk folks will make route suggestions. Starbucks closed on weekends.
Unclear how to retrieve messages from room telephone. Breakfast room can be very
crowded; to avoid this go early, and avoid late hours. Room refrigerator not
easily set and was extremely cold; it froze fruit, water and flowers! Ample hot
water but slow to run hot (3-4 minutes late at night; most hotels are
instant-hot)

Great location off of I5. Hotel room was clean and spacious. Got in late and
enjoyed a drink and appetizers at the well stocked bar. Food was delicious and
fresh. Breakfast offered a large selection of bread items plus scrambled eggs,
bagon, sausage and potatoes. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Valet
parking only. Starbucks across the street is closed on the weekends. Overall a
good stay.
