Hotel Review of the Ramada Inn Downtown Seattle

We stayed at this hotel for one night before leaving on a cruise but we would
have been perfectly happy to stay there for a longer period. We found the
reception staff very helpful - especially Andy. It was our first visit to
Seattle so we seemed to have quite a few questions as we wanted to make the most
of the limited time! We felt the staff were exceedingly patient and
understanding. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable armchair and a
large footstool which we appreciated. The bed was also comfortable and pillows
were excellent. (I have a problem with my neck so this is often an issue for
me). We felt that everything was close at hand with just a short walk to the
shops and also to the Space Needle in the other direction. There was a great
doughnut and coffee shop just a few yards from the hotel. It was very popular
with the locals and we loved it too! We didn't find anything to complain about
at this hotel all and would definitely stay there again in future.

Gave me wrong room without apology, room was without all listed amenities and
scungy looking: blamed booking company. Saw same clerk fighting with new
arrivals my second day there. Maid walked in on my in room without knocking.
Hotel charged by bogus extra fee after I left.
Worst desk service upon check-in I've ever experienced and it was later backed
up my management so not an isolated staff problem. Listed as having a restaurant
but it closes at 1pm so you need to eat before you get there for the night or
take a stroll through bad part of town to find food elsewhere.

Liked: 1) walk able distance to downtown, local attractions, shopping, ferries,
the Space Needle, etc., 2) inexpensive parking ($12 per day) with available
spots, safe place, 3) good access to major local freeways
Didn't like: 1) understaffed reception, waited too long to both check in and
out, 2) no free Wi-Fi, 3) unattractive cafe, but there were quite a few
breakfast places around the hotel, 4) loud ice-maker on the 4th floor :)

Can be noisy at night . Sirens from emergency vehicles
Not enough wall plugs to charge phone, computer.

We stayed for 3 nights at this Ramada in Downtown Seattle. We just needed a roof
over our heads. Compared to the other hotels in the city, this hotel was 50% of
the price with a great location. On the same block, about 2 blocks north from
the Westin. If your plan is to stay in your room the entire time and enjoy lush
amenities, you should probably look somewhere else. But to be able to pay this
low price for a clean, comfortable room with great staff at the front desk made
us happy. We knew we weren't going to be spending a lot of time just sitting in
the room, so it being a Ramada didn't phase us. We would stay here again if we
were touring Seattle again. :)

Stayed back in 2007 for conference. Hotel was only one within walking distance
of my conference that fit my budget and had free internet.
Hotel was not part of airport-bus shuttle, and the nearest stop was 2 blocks
away.
Room was decent, in great location, and had a great view of Space Needle. Had no
issues getting on the internet connection.
One evening I returned back to the hotel to find that my room door had not
latched completely after cleaning staff had been through. Luckily nothing was
stolen and no bogeyman was there to surprise me. When I alerted the front desk,
they compensated by taking off one night's charge on my bill. Needless to say, I
kept the "Do Not Disturb" sign out.

The location is wonderful: the corner of Belltown neighborhood, 5th and
Blanchard, a few blocks from Pike Market and downtown, a few blocks from Seattle
Center/Space Needle. An awarded doughnut shop (Hot Spot) is across the street,
as are many excellent coffee shops. The staff and management are pleasant and
accommodating. Public transportation works very well and can take you all over:
Madison Valley, Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, or far out of town. A serious
complaint (no hot water) was managed skillfully and quickly. Nice bedding and
towels. Lovely lobby and working internet there and printer. Simple but pleasant
on-site breakfast-lunch restaurant. Ask for a lower-level room, away from the
Fifth Avenue/Monorail traffic and noise; ask for a tub if you need one. Simple
room furnishing/old tubed-TV. The room I was in needed renovation with attention
to details of guest comfort, like the electric locations.
TROUBLING: I was unable to get any hot water my fist night in, despite the front
desk advice to “let the water run for 15 minutes,” to which I said “no.” In
reality, there’s plenty of hot water; had I turned the spigot to COLD (tried and
did not work after 5 minutes) and let it run for ten minutes, that action would
have brought water from the lower-level boiler to the fifth floor. The spigot
was detached and reversed in the morning. But the hot water situation on a
late-night arrival led to little sleep and a lot of frustration and anger.
Electrical outlets should be accessible ON THE DESK, but are underneath, where
one must crawl, only to find that the laptop plug will not stay in the outlet.
This too was fixed in the morning. Internet service is spotty, run by a vendor.
Easy sign on to wireless, and free; but snail-like speed (0.8 KB/sec) at
unpredictable times and not related to demand. 0.8 KB/sec is insufficient for
email and most business sites. Other times a better 25-50 KB/sec. This is not
good by home standards but not bad for hotels. Hourly parking or overnight
parking is expensive (as in all downtown hotels) but street parking is free
after 6 pm and metered before that, often available. Unless you really need a
car, don’t bring one.
NOTED BUT EVENT BEYOND HOTEL’S CONTROL: Morning of last day, a fire alarm rang
at 930 AM. It was accompanied by no PA announcement so guests were left
wondering what to do. Flooding in basement boiler room set off alarm, had to be
reset by Fire Department. When I left the floors by stairs, many rooms on my
floor had been left open. Occupied? Not? Afterwards, water ran yellow and when I
asked for water at front desk, a bottle was provided immediately.
