Hotel Review of the Red Lion Downtown Seattle
Aug 11, 2010
We stayed here for five nights at the beginning of August 2010. The hotel is in
a really good location with walking distance to Pike Place Market. The rooms are
comfortable and clean with all modern amenities. We really had no complaints
about the hotel at all. The only thing to be careful with is the parking which
is $33 a night. We thought this was a hell of an amount for one nights as
residents. Would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Seattle without a car.
Free wifi was a bonus too.

From reading the past reviews it's quite evident to me that some people are
chronic complainers. The one who complained that there was a charge for a cot
and for pets hasn't stayed in a hotel before - these are typical charges. When I
booked my reservation I knew ahead of time about the parking charge but found a
rate that included the breakfast and parking every day - great deal! In fact we
had such a good stay that we extended our vacation in Seattle by one day. The
desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I was a bit taken aback to have to
leave ID when borrowing the luggage rack when checking out but it was probably
necessary because of those inconsiderate travelers who don't bother to return it
to the lobby when they're finished. The room was fantastic and I enjoyed the pub
downstairs. The breakfast was very good every morning - I'm still fascinated
with that pancake machine! The hotel location is ideal with a Starbucks right
across the street and lots of touristy things to do close by. I'm not sure what
kind of vehicle the complaining group had that wouldn't fit in the parkade but I
have an SUV and it fit just fine. If they have a motorhome, how many parkades do
you know of that fit motorhomes? Geez The only minor complaints I would have are
that there wasn't a fan in the bathroom and we seemed to spend a lot of time
waiting for elevators. We even had maintenance come up to the room as the
hairdryer in the room stopped working and he was there in no time with a new
one. This is a great hotel and I would stay here again and, in fact, will be
soon for another shopping trip! I can't wait! One tip: we took the Duck land and
water tour - it was hilarious! Very well worth the price!

Great location, walking distance to most major Seattle attractions (Pikes place
market, Safeco field, Space Needle, good restaurants). Parking is expensive, but
it's located downtown so thats expected (39.00 including taxes). Room was clean
but decorating was very dark. No trouble with noise and our room was right by
the elevator. Free wireless internet was a major plus. Fitness center was clean
and had 4 treadmills and other machines/weights. Overall would stay here again
for the location.

Red Lion, 5th Ave I had visited Seattle for a Business meet and stayed in Red
Lion, 5th Ave. The hotel is in a great location and if lucky you could catch a
glimpse of the sea from your room. It is walking distance to beautiful shops (JC
Penny), great restaurants (CrabPot), Shopping Malls (Ross), Seattle Aquarium and
to Pike's Market.
Monorail and Bus stop is 2 blocks away. Room Service is pretty good and the
staff are always polite, respectful, and accommodating. The complimentary
shampoos and soaps are awesome. I have never had a problem sleeping. Downside:
$32 a day parking and no pool.Apr 23, 2010
The hotel is in a great location and if you pay more for the higher floors, the
view is nice. Overall, though, it is not a very family-friendly hotel and its
amenities are limited. The room is nice enough and they provided ample towels
and bath & body works shampoo and conditioner. Bed was comfortable and the room
was good sized. There was no microwave but there was a small box refrigerator
that was set to very cold and could not be adjusted. The A/C or heat was
uncontrollable so the room was either chilly or unbearably hot and no turning of
the knob could adjust it. This made sleep quality poor. The roaring start
breakfast was disappointing because it cost about $8 per person, so if it is not
complimentary, I would like more options in food. I did not think the food was
worth the price -- i have eaten the same for free at any Holiday Inn. By the
way, you have to ask for vouchers at the front desk for the breakfast -- you
cant just pay at the restaurant should you decide to go. The cable programming
for the TV was NOT family-friendly. There were about 10 sports channels but the
only family channels were Cartoon network (and that is NOT often for children)
or ABC Family. Would have liked a Disney channel or Nick channel. Roll-aways/cribs
cost an extra $20 per night. One day I did not get a newspaper (and all the
other rooms around mine did) but when I asked the front desk, they told me,
"Sorry, we ran out of them." All in all, it seems one is paying for the location
of the hotel rather than amenities. It is no better than the average budget
hotel for amenities. I would try another hotel if I returned.

The location is top notch. However the room we were assigned to had a broken
thermostat. It blew out very warm air at the highest setting it seems.
I called front desk 3 times and all 3 times they brushed me off telling me
simply to try to reset the thermostat by turning it up and down several times.
If that doesn't work they told me that was all the options they have so pretty
much for me to deal with it.
In my opinion the hotel is 3*. Staff needs better customer service training. Not
very caring to customers needs.
This hotel can be so much better if they just tried harder.
I wouldn't come back again

Im sitting in this room in the Red Lyon writing this review because Im upset the
staff is completely clueless and unable to help. I'm sick of having the fan
above my bed blow air, either hot or cold directly on me. My eyes are drying out
and I dont even wear contacts. The AC/Heater only has a temperature control knob
circa 1970. There is no ON/OFF switch, No AC/Heat switch, No FAN HI MED LOW
switch. It just blows a constant heavy stream of air direction above the bed
down onto you. Its really horrible. For work I stay in hotels around the country
and around the world, both good and bad. I have never stayed anywhere that you
cannot turn off the air or have any control over it. Even LA QUINTA gives you a
button for temp, fan, ac/heat. Im so sick of this air blowing on me im ready to
freak out. My hair is blowing like a model in front of a fan. I called the front
desk and she said she was putting me on hold and hung up on me. Then the
maintenance guy is here knocking on me door, Im not letting some man into my
room at night when Im in bed. If the DESK STAFF doesn't know what the air
conditioning knob looks like they need to get a clue. And hanging up on me and
sending a man to my door was not the surprise I needed. I called back because I
wanted someone to explain if there is a switch or a button somewhere else. They
said they were transferring me to maintenance and they sent my call to a fax
line. Im about to call the manager. I would never stay here if i had to pay for
it. Its overpriced, bad views, horrible service, crappy small rooms, and god
only knows where the ice machine was, i saw a few lost soles searching with
their empty buckets, there are NOT machines on every floor, and no signage to
tell you were to get ice. SO i guess you can ride the slow elevator to every
floor and get out and look for ice then get back in and go to the next floor cuz
the front desk doesn't have a clue about anything. This is crap. Its a good
thing im getting paid to sleep here. And in my opinion I should be getting PAID
MORE to sleep here. |
