From the time I arrived, I received superb service from the front desk. When I needed directions, the young man at the desk was always available to give accurate directions and provide a map. The day before I left, I was told by the friendly young man that when I needed my cab to call downstairs 5-10 minutes before. So the next morning, I called the front desk at 4:23 AM (I wanted a cab by 4:30 for my 6 AM flight). The guy at the front desk told me to call back 5-10 minutes before I was ready. I told him that's what I was doing, it's 4:23 and I'd like a cab by 4:30. My whole thinking was that I was calling 5-10 mins before I was going to head down. So then the front desk guy had an attitude, said that I needed to call back because he wasn't going to call the cab company because he's not going to watch for cabs that pull up in front of the hotel, "that's not my job, I'm not going to be responsible if the cab leaves". All I could think was how rude this guy was. I smiled, and hung up the phone. I called back down when I was literally walking out the door. When I reached downstairs, I was ready to tell the guy how rude and unprofessional he was over the phone, and he was not there at the front desk. I got in the cab and went to the airport.
I just feel that there is a more polite way to deal with guests.
I would hate to give this hotel a p!ss poor rating for one rude employee, so I'd still recommend it, I just ask the hotel front desk (in particular the young man who works the overnight shift) to learn some manners and etiquette when dealing with customers if you want return business.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in May 2010 having booked directly on the hotel's website. We booked way in advance and did not get a 'deal' so our value for money rating reflects that. As other reviewers have commented the location cannot be bettered. Although we encountered the elevator problem the staff coped with it very well on the whole. (I can't believe they are still fixing the elevators in July - hope its a fixed price contract!). Our room was on the 12th floor and on a corner and it was spacious (perhaps reflecting the room rate) and quiet. The lack of a restaurant was a minor inconvenience and we breakfasted at the Daily Grill just up the road. One of the great pluses is that it is within walking distance of the Light Railway which is by far the best way to travel to and from Seatac Airport. We had a nice dinner at Etta's near Pike Place Market and also took the Boeing Factory tour which was great. Sadly, Seattle seems to have more than its share of the homeless (perhaps in part attracted by the market?) and although we felt safe, prospective visitors should expect to be approached fairly regularly in the downtown area. The Roosevelt is an excellent base for exploring the city and we would not hesitate to return - perhaps when the elevators are fixed.

Reading the previous reviews did help to appropriately set our expectations. Yes the elevator is slow, and yes the rooms are smaller than what we typically expect now. I will say that the room was comfortable for 2 adults, but would be cramped if you're a family of 3+. If you these are minor things to you, then you're stay will be great. The perks were the location (6 blocks straight down from the market). The shopping is a block or two away as well. Also, the Westlake Center (light-rail train and buses) is 2 blocks away, which gets you anywhere you want to go ... including a $2.50 trip from the airport. Also, the room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Internet is free, but only available in the lobby (not in the room). If you want luxury, this is not your hotel ... but if you're going for a cheaper alternative that's downtown this is a good option for you.
Also of note, Von's Restaurant connected with the hotel is great for dinner/drinks.

We booked our room through the Victoria Clipper, not knowing where to stay in Seattle.
The location was awesome; the room was blah and spartan and the hotel really didn't have the character I was expecting. On the upside: It was clean and we slept well. It's an older hotel and it feels like a well-kept older hotel. No problems with noise from other rooms.
It was an awesome location, and for that reason I recommend it.
One elevator was being worked on when we were there, which they warned us about at check-in, and thus it never really bothered us

After our Alaska seven day cruise, we decided to spend two days in Seattle site seeing. We stayed at the Roosevelt and were very pleased with the hotel, staff, and location. The rooms were very comfortable with flat screen TV and a small sink area. And yes, only one elevator was working - no big deal.
The location is something else. It's right in front of a very high end shopping mall with restaurants and a movie complex. It's walking distance from Pike's Market and many other interesting places and shops. You can even take the monorail to Seattle Center (Space Needle, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) just a few block away.

I frequently travel to Seattle for business and opt to stay at this hotel primarily due to the convenience in location. Centrally located, prime attractions are accessible a couple of blocks away, and multiple nearby restaurants to choose from. It is an older hotel, but very charming. Speaking of charm, so are the people who work there. There is never a day where I'm not greeted with a smile, which is nice to see after a day of meetings etc. The minor complaint, AND it is very minor is the slowness of the elevator, so fair warning. BUT, other then that -a hotel that is highly recommended if you find yourself visiting this beautiful city!

While researching a hotel in downtown Seattle my husband and I read reviews, location and especially the prices. We were so happy we picked The Roosevelt. The location is great! The light rail from the airport almost drops you at the front door and the walk to Pike Place Market is a straight walk down Pine. Shops and restaurants all around you. We would definitely stay there again and again. Staff and service was helpful and friendly.

This was my second stay at this hotel and I do like the old ambiance of the place, with the plush carpets, places for you to sit and the ease of entry. The staff are very friendly and I appreciated Jennifer's humor at the front desk. The elevator though was another story. I had to wait at least ten minutes for the thing. And the staff finally had one of their own operating the elevator. When I returned some hours later, the elevator again would ignore the button at the first floor and would not open unless someone from another floor happened to come to the first floor. Quite annoying. There was one guest who was being particularly obnoxious to the staff and the staff were calm in the midst of adversity which I appreciated. The room: I think offering four dollars for use of the bottled water was a bit much and the hotel should re-think its policy on that. The television was appreciated. The coffeemaker ran well and did its thing. The divider doors in 1203 do stick and not close correctly, but I didn't need that. Overall good experience. I would go again, as soon as they fix that elevator!
