Hotel Review of the Sorrento Hotel Seattle

We were delighted with our choice in this Hotel, the rooms were shic, modern & beautiful. A little bit small but perfect for our two night stay. The people in the lobby were very friendly and made us feel at home. I hate how swanky hotels make you feel uncomfortable and not welcome but that certainly didn't happen here.

Stayed at the Sorrento for the first time after moving away from Seattle 10 years and after never stepping foot in the door while residing in the city but had always heard glowing reviews of it. Was immediately taken aback by the generosity of the staff who were very friendly and immediately offered a room upgrade. Upon entering the room i found out why this hotel was given such high marks, separate sitting area with couch and desk, the most comfortable down-filled bed, large marble bathroom with excellent toiletries. We were most pleased. It is a little stretch for walking down to Pike's Market unless you happen to be in tiptop shape as Seattle is very hilly. The breakfast was excellent also and plus they have a nice happy hour in the lobby with the fireplaces glowing which can be handy during the wet weather that may great you while in Seattle.

We booked The Sorrento via Last Minute and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the old style hotel. Its definitely old - so if youre looking for sleek fittings, bland colours, lots of glass, designer taps, plasmas etc then this is not the place for you.....head to somewhere that was built in 09 instead.
This is a beautiful old building that has been taken care of and is very welcoming. Its a step back in time to a simpler world - beautiful furniture and linen etc.
Its located on top of the hill so you get a fair bit of incidental exercise every time you head into the city centre / markets. Happy hour offers some great drinks deals and next time we visit we will book for the high tea.
A nice change from the standard hotel ....definitely recommend it.

The Sorrento is awesome! I ended up booking a room at the last minute (for an outrageous price of no less than $200) but my stay was incredible.
The rooms are amazing, the staff is very helpful and friendly and the service was impeccable.
If you're ever looking for a romantic splurge I'd definitely recommend it.
I've stayed at a lot of high-priced establishments and this is one of the few I can say the rooms were 5 star. A lot of times you will pay for 5 star and see 5 star in the lobby... and then encounter very average rooms and amenities. This is definitely not the case with the Sorrento.

Well, we were really disappointed. After all the great reviews we really expected more from this place. The pictures look GREAT but it doesn't really feel like that once you're there. It's a very old hotel and I really respect the fact that they want to keep it as original as possible, however it's tiny and dark and not really equipped with any modern amenities. (ie: no ice machines, vending machines, gift shop, etc)

We arrived early and our room wasn't ready (even though I called the day before to let them know we'd be early) so we had lunch in the "restaurant." They have a very small menu with very brief descriptions and everything is pricey. The server was nice and friendly and the food was pretty good but I don't know if was worth the price. The atmosphere was dark and old and felt like a gentleman's club so we weren't totally comfortable there.

After lunch our room was ready so that worked out nicely. We headed up the tiny elevator to our "junior suite" which was definitely not what we expected either! Very, very small for a suite of any kind. The room was stuffy and the AC doesn't work so we had to open the windows which don't have screens so we had a few insect visitors- oh great. The TV was a joke- totally basic cable with no guide channel, info button or TV guide anywhere in the room so you have to just flip through and hope you find something you want to watch (and all the channels had crappy reception, very fuzzy).

The bathroom was adequate- nice sink and vanity, closet with robes, etc. Separate tiny area with toilet and tiniest shower ever (my 6'4" husband was rather cramped).

The "suite" area consisted of a loveseat, two chairs and a coffee table. Wow! So glad we upgraded. The king size bed was mostly comfortable, lots of nice pillows that reaked of hotel bleach. There was about 4 feet of space between the end of the bed and the "suite" area so we're talking small here people. Trying to get room service of any kind took a while but everyone was friendly and helpful.

The other major con of this place is the location. There is nothing around there that is remotely interesting. Since we ate lunch at the hotel's only restaurant, we decided to wonder around outside to find something for dinner. There was no one around at the concierge desk or the reception desk to ask for recommendations so we set off on our own and were sorely disappointed by what we found. Nearly everything was already closed and it was 5pm on a Saturday! Hello?! We ended up eating fast food because it was the only thing open that looked even sort of clean and welcoming. Not how we wanted to spend the first night of our vacation!

We had to leave really early the next morning to get to the Amtrak station and mysteriously the awesome hotel car was gone so we had to call a cab. We were hoping to utilize that car a couple of times to save money but it was never there for us!

So, it was a decent place to spend one night but the bottom line is that we wouldn't go back so I can't recommend it.

I and my wife own a Four Diamond property and typically stay only at four or five diamond properties as a matter of comfort. We found the rooms and ambience of the Sorrento to be excellent. What really makes this hotel special, however, is the staff. There is a difference between a high level of service that is simply offered by the book vs warm, sincere high service tendered with a genuine desire to help. The Sorrento excels in the latter. I hope to stay here often in my future travels to Seattle.

We stayed at the Sorrento for a wedding that was taking place on the 7th floor. We had a junior suite. It was small for a suite, but very quaint. Since this is an older hotel , everything seemed small. However, it was still beautiful. The bed was great. Everything was super clean. The concierge staff was great. We parked at the hotel and our car was always ready when we needed it. No negatives other than a charge for the restaurant was posted to our bill even though we never entered the restaurant. However, they promptly removed it.

For value, location and old world charm, I consider this hotel to be a good value. Service was good both at the valet, concierge and in the bar/restaurant. Particularly noteworthy service was provided by John and Kody, and there is a fireside sitting lounge where live jazz acts played while we were there. The common areas are warm and adorned with rich woods typical of the turn of the century era that this hotel was built in. We would definitely stay here again when back in the Seattle area.

We stayed two days in Seattle at the end of a trip. We were impressed with previous reviews of the hotel and chose it on that basis. It is easy to find. However they have no parking and valet service is $26 per day. They were very accommodating about a late check out and did comp us the second day of parking while we explored the city. Further, they provided cars and drivers to the sights downtown.

The staff was fabulous. Or perhaps I should say that the concierge, Kevin, was fabulous. He was filled with useful information, got us into restaurants, and arranged tours. The concierge and drivers are necessary because the hotel is 10 blocks from most sights. While not a long distance the hills in Seattle make the journey a challenge.

The room was small but adequate. The bathroom had the lightswitch outside the room and was difficult to close the door while in the bathroom. DO NOT flush the toilet while taking a shower. Scalding water will result. We had no problem with wireless access and the room had nice amenities such as a stereo with cds, hot pot for a nice selection of teas, a french press coffee maker. The bed was a disappointment. But previous reviews had raved so perhaps our expectations were too high. It was a double and the pillows were too large. The feather duvet was too hot given that the ac worked poorly. Ok bed, but far from the best I have ever slept in.
Worth a stay even if a tad overpriced. Be sure to note the changing day carpets in the elevators.

The Sorrento is 100 years old, and when you step into the lobby, it's like stepping back in time or like being in Europe. There is lovely antique style furniture, beautiful wood paneling, a jazz pianist playing, and a fire burning. The staff is wonderful. Very accommodating. I was on a business trip, and most hotels for business use charge for internet access, use of the business center for faxes, etc. This is all free! Also, there is a free town car (a London cab) that will take you downtown when it is available. This is the only thing that I would say not to rely on, because it is often booked. (I was there a week, and got to use it I think 3 times). The restaurant is also excellent, with great service there too. The rooms feature a living room with separate tv (2 tvs in each suite), a separate bedroom, and a spacious bathroom area. There are even books about the history of Seattle and the hotel in the rooms.

The Hotel Sorrento was wonderful. The staff were extremely relaxed, friendly and helpful. The hotel has a wonderful old world charm. I noted a preference for vegan food in the online reservation and the staff went out of their way to address this on check in and when I went to the restaurant. The room was superb. I would highly recommend a stay at the hotel Sorrento in Seattle.
