Hotel Review of the Grand Hyatt Seattle
19 February 2012
I stayed here for 6 nights and had a really good experience. We had a nightmare
journey to get there and ended up arriving over 5 hours late but when we called
them to make sure they weren't going to give our rooms away (that had happened
to us with a different hotel on a previous occasion) they just told us not to
worry and were very helpful.
The check-in team, porters, valet guys and room service team were all really
fantastic and helpful during our stay.
The rooms are a good size and nicely furnished although could do with a light
refurb as some of the furniture is getting a bit tatty. The desk is a good size
to work from and the wired internet connection was reliable. All rooms have a
minibar, laptop-size safe, iron and ironing board as standard but it's the
bathroom that really made the difference for me. The bathroom was huge with a
lovely deep tub and a separate oversized shower that you could really move
around in...sadly lacking from most hotels.
My only issue was sleep quality...all the bedroom doors really slam hard when
they shut which did wake me up on a few occasions, and also the walls are so
thin that I got woken up by next doors alarm going off.
Overall though I really enjoyed my stay here and would be happy to return

Stayed here for one night with my bride as we took in the Pre-Christmas
activities downtown. Hotel offered a "shopping package" for 199. The rate
included 75 in gift cards to local retailers, free valet parking and an in room
movie....A great deal, considering it drops the rate for the hotel room to under
100 easily.
We booked a King Room, but did the Hyatt upgrade option that is available when
you book a room. Ended up getting the upgrade to the Grand club floors and to an
Executive suite The upgrade was well worth it. Executive suite had a separate
sitting room with TV and wet bar, and single bath, and through french doors that
lead to the bedroom. Standard work station (that lacked AC plug in on desk), and
a gigantic closet and bathroom. Bathroom had separate toilet area, huge shower
and gigantic soaking tub. Great amenities to spoil yourself with. Loved the room
and and push button darkening blinds.
Was glad we upgraded to the grand club floors as it provided complimentary
evening snacks and reasonably priced adult beverages (5 bucks), plus a great
morning breakfast spread. The club is open all day with coffee, soda and water
and the folks working in it are awesome.
Did not use the health club but took a look. Great set up plus a nice whirl
pool. Images on web site are accurate, keep in mind that there is not a pool at
this property.
Check in, check out and Valet were flawless. Great public area staff that were
spot on and did a great job.

The only downer on the trip is related to the work station in the bedroom. It
did not have plug ins on top of the desk, so was forced to plug two I-phone
chargers into the wall outlet under the desk. We left the chargers by mistake
and didn't realize to later in the evening after we checked out. I called the
hotel and asked if they had found them. Was told that house keeping did not
report any found items from the room, but that security would take a look in the
room as it was vacant that evening. NO luck as they said the room was clean.
That leaves only a few options. House keeping threw them in the trash, House
Keeping put them in their pocket, or the hotel does not have a good lost and
found tracking system. What makes it even more of a bummer is that we tip well
and did so for the house keeping staff as we always do. This is totally our
fault for leaving the chargers in the room, but I was hopeful based off our
great experience during our stay that they would be located. Don't let this sour
your thoughts of staying here, as we will certainly consider coming back to this
property. We have stayed at 8 downtown 4 star + properties in Seattle and this
is one of the best, just wish they could have found our I phone chargers..

We did a staycation right before Christmas...left the kids with the grandparents
and headed to Downtown Seattle to enjoy the holiday atmosphere. We booked via
the hotel's website and utilized the "shopping package" that they were offering.
This happens to be an exceptional value. We booked the room for $199 and
received $50 Pacific Place voucher, $25 City Centre voucher, free in room movie
and complimentary valet parking. We booked the regular King room. The room was
on the 25th floor with stunning views of the city. The room itself was quite
clean with no issues to be found. The bathroom is quite large with a nice tub
and there was also a walk in shower which was quite nice. The bed was fairly
comfortable but I'm picky when it comes to mattresses. The Hyatt was nice but
not as comfy as the Westin's beds (in my opinion). I did like the remote control
for the room darkening blinds...I enjoyed sleeping most of the night with the
blinds open...the city lights from that high up were so pretty. It was handy in
the early morning to just press a button and the blinds quietly went
down...without having to leave my bed!
All in all, we had a very nice stay at the Hyatt and would certainly stay there
again! I would recommend without hesitation.

If you're staying downtown, location is excellent. Within 3 to blocks of the
best of downtown shopping. Convention center? Right next door. Obviously
renovated in the not too distant past, so rooms are in excellent shape with all
the amenities you would expect for this price range, such as large bathroom with
separate marble shower, excellent bed and recently updated furnishings. As you
would expect from any Downtown hotel, this is oriented to business travellers.
If you're looking for the romantic weekend getaway, however, there may be better
options (Fairmont?). I gave it a 4 overall for service. Nice furnishings and
updating are important, but really great hotels distinguish themselves with the
calibre of their service, and that usually means the training of their
employees. As a rule, on this point Hyatt is fine, but not great. And this hotel
is no exception to that rule.
One word of caution - downtown is a little edgy at night for my liking. The
people we encountered while walking around looking for our restaurant at 9 pm
did definitely make us a little uncomfortable at times. My wife will want to
stay in Bellevue on the next weekend trip to Seattle, because of that. But that
is obviously something that is a very personal preference. |
