Hotel Review of the Grand Hyatt Seattle
August 30, 2011
I love the Grand Hyatt. It is in the center of downtown and is big enough that
it's easy to come and go anonymously, which I consider refreshing. My room had
floor to ceiling windows facing West and featured a parlor area with a love seat
chair and ottoman, an expansive restroom with plush towels and a bedroom alcove
in the back. There was a phone in each room (including the restroom) and a large
TV in both the bedroom and parlor areas.
The bathtubs are luxuriously deep, the fitness center is huge and they'll loan
you workout clothes if you forget yours. They also feature an ah inducing spa
tub, sauna and a steam room (a rarity in Seattle).
At 3:30pm the front desk called to see when/ if I intended to check out,
allowing me ample time to gather my wits about me and depart in an orderly
manner. My favorite thing about the Hyatt is the size of it and easy access
around the clock.

First and foremost, this is an excellent location for a hotel in Seattle.
Shopping, restaurants, the Market, and the waterfront are all within easy
walking distance. If you really wanted to, you could also walk to the Seahawks'
and Mariners' stadiums. It is about a mile walk, but my husband and I did do it
pretty easily.
Pros:
- Close to everything (as already stated)
- Beautiful room with a great view on higher floors. (We were on the 24th
floor.) The window goes almost floor to ceiling, which I loved. And, they have
fantastic curtains that go up and down at the touch of a button that block out
almost ALL light. They're fantastic.
Beds were very comfortable.
- Starbucks is connected to it in the lobby.
- Pretty friendly staff at check-in.
Cons:
- Parking is a ridiculous $30/day.
- No free wi-fi available in the rooms. Starbucks does have it, but it is
extremely inconvenient.
- We had called down to the desk about our bathtub. (It wouldn't plug.) We had
to call three times before someone finally came up. Those calls were once early
in the morning, once again about nine hours later (at which point we were told
that it would be done within in the next hour), and then once more about four
hours later. Finally, someone came up.
- We had issues with our parking ticket. While I realize the hotel doesn't
actually run the parking garage, they are still using it for their guests as
"their" parking facilities. The hotel would not help us out at all with our
issue. The parking ticket became demagnetized and wouldn't work in the machines,
but yet they wouldn't issue us a new one. It was a HUGE issue everything morning
and evening going to and from my meetings. Not only was it an inconvenience for
me, but everyone else behind me who had to wait.
We would stay here again, just based on its excellent location to everything.

I booked an Emerald Suite thinking I would have a sofabed in the sitting room
and then I would order a roll-away bed for my other teen. No. The rooms in this
hotel are very large, the bathroom is large - but we needed 2 roll-away beds.
Overall the value of this hotel was excellent. Linens and Rooms were very nice.
The Location of the hotel is an easy walk to the water, there is a Starbucks in
the base of the hotel and a Ruth's Chris. Easy walk to a lot of other
restaurants.
There is even a Hertz within a block that will probably same you money if you
book your car there instead of at the airport - if that works for you.

We stayed here beginning of this year for a night. Room and bathroom was
spectacular. Even though the standard room was a bit cramp, it was exceptionally
clean. Bed was very comfortable and fits a 4 star hotel. They have a pretty
decent bar in the hotel itself.
Only thing I did not like with the stay was the view from the room was not good.
We could only see the roof and chimney of the next building.
Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the hotel July 7 - July 11th. The staff was
so friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel is Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
Fantastic! And there is a Starbucks in the building. We had a standard room with
a great view. The room was clean and the bed was heavenly.
GREAT fitness center there too. Probably the best I've ever seen in a hotel.
Room Tip: ask for a lake view

We stayed an extra day in Seattle after an Alaska cruise and chose this hotel
for proximity to everything. The service at the hotel was fantastic, our room
was immaculate and had a very welcome deep tub for a soak. Loved it. The Ruth
Chris restaurant in the lobby served breakfast and it was delicious with perfect
service. There are also a Starbucks in the lobby, a deli and a great sushi
restaurant. We were walking distance to Pikes Market, Nordstrom, and the metro
for the Space needle. I would definitely stay here again when in Seattle. |
