Hotel Review of the Holiday Inn Express Northgate Mall
May 5, 2011
I agree on the 3.5 stars. The hotel is clean and the staff have always been
pretty good to us. We don't normally eat hotel buffet breakfasts, so this one is
pretty ordinary. However, there are a number of restaurants within walking
distance (including the best Taco truck in the area about 7 blocks North, on
Aurora near 150th.) Also, it is *not* walking distance to Northgate Mall or the
Seattle Center. It is easy to get on a #358 bus to get to the Center or
downtown, goes right down Aurora/Hwy 99. I believe you can also get a bus across
145th that will take you to Northgate Mall. Buses in Seattle are pretty
frequent, but focused on getting you downtown, not across town.
We have always been accommodated with use of freezer space for the things we
bring back from Seattle as well as early checkins when we have needed them. It's
true that the first half of the 4th floor are smoking rooms, so you may get a
few whiffs when you get off the elevator, but the other half is around a dogleg
and pretty clear of fumes.
I would not stay at the majority of the other hotels on Aurora Avenue, so we
have been here a number of times and will come back, it suits our needs very
well. Pricing is competitive for Seattle, not cheap, but not over-spendy either.

This Holiday Inn Express deserves 3.5 stars. First, it's located far north of
Seattle so don't believe you can walk downtown. My wife's corporate office is
located near the Northgate Mall so we need somewhere to stay in the general
area. As stated in other reviews, there are very few reasonable choices in the
vicinity. I looked online and then drove around extensively to find the nicest
place to stay and I believe this is it. I agree, there are nicer Holiday Inn
Expresses. However, there is nothing in the general area that's better,
including the Nexus. While the overall facility is showing its nine year age,
it's still very clean and well maintained. The room we stayed in was clean and
spacious with very comfortable beds and pillows and a nice shower. Also, the
room was quiet but that could be due to other guests. Nonetheless, it was a
pleasant surprise. We didn't get to use the indoor pool or hot tub but we
stopped in and they looked pretty nice. The staff was pleasant and efficient and
they responded to a couple requests very promptly. The free breakfast is decent
with small omelets, muffins, bacon, sausage and biscuits & gravy. Cereal, a
pastry, bagels, coffee, tea and juices are included too. Overall, the breakfast
is good, convenient and included in the room rate. If you have a need to stay in
this particular area, I've done the legwork for you. This hotel is your best
choice. One more thing... this hotel will soon undergo an upgrade... this will
improve an already good property but you might want to ask if the renovation is
taking place and choose your room accordingly.

My room was fine, I used Priceline, got a first floor room. Everything was fine,
but the bathroom had little ants in it. At one point there were about 10 in the
sink, sometimes there would be a couple on the floor... didn't see any anywhere
else in the room, just the bathroom, all three days. Slept in each day so didn't
get to try the complimentary breakfast. :( Its about a 10 minute drive to
downtown Seattle. Worked fine for me. Oh, they have one computer available for
use, in the lobby, which is pretty meh, and it was giving me warnings when I
used it, which doesn't seem right either. The girl at the desk was super nice
though. :)Hotel Review of the Holiday Inn Express Northgate Mall
