Hotel Review of the Hotel 5 Seattle
June 13, 2011
This hotel is in the process of being renovated. The windows do not open in any
of the rooms so there was no way to vent the odor of fresh paint and new
carpeting. The smell was overwhelming. The air conditioner was not adequate to
cool the room. We had no hair dryer, ice bucket or glasses. There was no shelf
in the shower to put our shower supplies. The shower was plugged so we spent the
first night standing in 2” of water. The staff tried to unclog it the next day
but were unsuccessful and the room smelled like chemicals when we returned.
Again, no way to vent the room. We ended up moving the the 5th floor. Parking is
scarce and the spaces are very small. No way to park a full size car or truck.

When I initially booked the hotel it was a Ramada, so when I received my
confirmation and saw that it was Hotel Five I was very worried. However, from
the moment I stepped into the hotel my expectations were constantly exceeded
with the nice and helpful staff to the trendy hotel rooms to the great location.
I stayed on the 5th floor which was renovated, so that may explain the
difference between my review and past reviews. The location was also great. It
was a 7 minute walk to Pike's Place and 10 minute walk to the space needle. The
only negative is parking is a bit tight. Considering I have paid $40/night for
parking at some downtown hotels, I can't complain that much because it was less
than $15/per night. Without a doubt, I recommend this hotel.

The one good thing about this hotel was its great location--everything was
within walking distance! However, it left a lot to be desired. Upon check-in, we
were told that the plumbing in our room was causing problems, so we were moved
into a handicap room which smelled of sewage. When we were finally moved into
our regular room, we realized the plumbing was an issue throughout the entire
hotel--hot water was hard to come by unless you had 30 extra minutes in the
morning to wait for the water to heat up. The cable went out multiple times
(probably because they were doing loud construction on the fourth and fifth
floors), and each day, despite our requests to reuse our towels, they replaced
them with one clean one. One single towel...no hand towel, no washcloths. It
wouldn't usually be a big deal to call down to the front and have more towels
sent up, but when we had to do this every day, it got a little irritating.
Overall, I have never been more dissatisfied with a hotel. My recommendation
would be to shell out a little more money and stay at a better, higher quality
hotel down the street.

No longer a Ramada Inn, this hotel is now simply called Hotel 5. It was
undergoing many changes when we visited. Without advanced notice to those just
checking in, the water was turned off for 3 hours just when we needed to take a
shower. It has potential, but at the moment it is only potential. Aug 5, 2010
We stayed at this hotel for one night before leaving on a cruise but we would
have been perfectly happy to stay there for a longer period. We found the
reception staff very helpful - especially Andy. It was our first visit to
Seattle so we seemed to have quite a few questions as we wanted to make the most
of the limited time! We felt the staff were exceedingly patient and
understanding. Our room was a good size with a very comfortable armchair and a
large footstool which we appreciated. The bed was also comfortable and pillows
were excellent. (I have a problem with my neck so this is often an issue for
me). We felt that everything was close at hand with just a short walk to the
shops and also to the Space Needle in the other direction. There was a great
doughnut and coffee shop just a few yards from the hotel. It was very popular
with the locals and we loved it too! We didn't find anything to complain about
at this hotel all and would definitely stay there again in future. |
