Hotel Review of the Inn at Harbor Steps Seattle

Wonderful hotel with excellent customer service. Morning breakfast was very good and the afternoon wine/cheese was also very nice. We stayed in a King Jacuzzi room. Great view of the courtyard. Hotel is close to everything we wanted to see. Only thing that would make this a perfect hotel is a mattress upgrade. We would definitely return!

The Inn at Harbor Steps has two valuable things going for it: location and room size. Both were very good for anyone visiting Seattle and, given those two factors, we are glad we stayed there. Its foibles, however, were many -- in no particular order:

-Room was dark and had poor ventilation. No windows other than a French door that opened onto a fake balcony that faced a populated alleyway that was noisy at times and offered little privacy. We wanted the door open just for air (the room was very stuffy), but originally noise prevented us from doing that, and then the door actually came off its hinges and was not safe to open. We happened to be here on a hot weekend (rare, I realize), and the air conditioner in the room was our next resort, but it was not working well and was noisy going on and off at unplanned times (??) so we had to turn that off overnight.

-Insufficient artificial lighting (small lamps in a dark and large room).

-Free wifi is NOT available in your room unless you tap into the network from Tully's, a nearby coffee shop. The free wifi advertised by the hotel is only available in the common areas of the hotel and requires an access code that changes every time you log on. This was totally inconvenient, so we relied on Tully's (thank, Tully's!).

-The water pressure in the shower was weak.

Any of these things may seem trivial, and if I were not paying top dollar I would not be surprised to find the place a little down in the heels. But the price clearly buys you the location and the room size, so if you can find a place near Pike Place Market with more reliable amenities, I would go for that. The rooms are at various levels from street level and down -- ask for one of the higher ones for more light and privacy.

My husband and I have stayed at several Four Sisters Inns and visited Seattle many times and it was hard to believe this is one of their properties. Would not stay again despite the excellent location. For these prices ($167 + taxes weekday and $250 + taxes Friday night) we will stay somewhere else on our next visit.

I LOVED the garden room we stayed at, and how it did not feel like we were staying at a hotel, it felt more like a room in a house. I got a good nights sleep in the hotel room, and felt very comfortable staying there! The location is also very close to all the things you would want to walk to, close to stores, and close to the delicious cheesecake factory! It was an amazing place for me and my boyfriend to stay at, and the whole time we did not feel like we were in a hotel room!

What a wonderful time we had exploring Seattle and staying right near all that makes that city great. We used public transportation and walked everywhere we went. The inn was so unique to b and b's. Urban, exciting, yet a quiet getaway amid the energy. Great breakfast. Enjoyed the poached eggs and raisin cinnamon bread. A lovely patio to enjoy wine each evening. Service was terrific, people friendly and helpful. David took very good care of us.
