Hotel Review of the Renaissance Hotel in Seattle
Apr 21, 2011
I decided to catch a couple of baseball games and, being familiar with Seattle
from previous visits, knew that any downtown hotel would not be far from either
Safeco Field, the Space Needle or Pike Place Market. It just became a matter of
which place offered the best price for a nice room. It had to be 3 stars or
better. The Renaissance came in at $90 a night, through Hotwire.
This hotel is conveniently located off of Interstate 5. the downside, of course,
is noise. My room was on the 16th floor and, while it was ok, I could still hear
muffled traffic noise. Check in was friendly and fast. As noted in previous
reviews, the parking cost is expensive. $36 per day with taxes. Yes...most of
the nicer hotels, downtown, charge like this, but I'd jump at the chance to stay
somewhere that offered reasonable parking rates and nice accommodation.
The downstairs lounge is quite comfortable with reading/business rooms.
Elevators were fast and quiet. The room, while getting a little worn, was still
nice. Mine faced east, giving me a view of the expressway and some of downtown
Seattle. The king-size bed was comfortable. Slept well. Flat screen tv worked
good. Found that it would get a little fuzzy if it was pointed in the "wrong"
direction. Bathroom was nice. Large enough.
The rooms have those single serving coffee makers. I don't drink decaf so, if
you're sharing the room with another coffee drinker, you'll need to ask for a
2nd regular coffee.
I never made it up the 26th or 28th floors. I understand that they have lounges
and pools and stuff up there, but I was in town, with friends, for a couple of
games. Mostly, we were out and about. If you enjoy walking, both Safeco field
and Pike Place Market are fairly close. About 20 - 25 minutes to either, going -
mostly - downhill. If you're heading downtown and still have the energy to walk
back, after, head up to 6th Avenue. You'll avoid the steep hills. Much more
gradual. Coming back from Safeco...take a taxi! It's about $7. (Same for
downtown.)
There is a $13 daily charge for room wifi. I was told, however, that the wifi is
complimentary in the lobby lounge. I set up my iPad, there, and to my surprise,
it worked for my entire 3 day stay...no matter where in the hotel I was! My
room, included. No charge. Try it and see if it works...
Room Tip: Get a room on a higher floor facing west!

We stayed at this hotel for one Friday night. The location is excellent for
access to Seattle's downtown shopping and attractions. We experienced the best
hotel staff I've encountered in years! The front desk (checking in and checking
out), room service and maid service. Just outstanding, friendly, helpful people.
The rooms are not super large, but plenty big enough for 2 people.
Room Tip: Ask for a "quiet room"

It's hard to find anything wrong with this hotel. The location is perfect -
everything in downtown is within walking distance and the hotel is magnificent.
The only complaint I have is this hotel has taken to the same habits other large
hotels chains have - "additional charges" - parking is expensive at 35/day plus
tax and wireless internet is 13/day plus tax. This was not a surprise as the man
at the front desk was very clear about it, but why don't they figure these
expenses into the regular rate? Outside of that, the hotel is probably the
nicest I've stayed in - the bed was comfy, elevators are really quick, and the
front desk staff is very accommodating - I had to leave around 4am and still was
encountered with a friendly response.

We bid $79 for this hotel on Priceline so we got a good value for sure. A lot of
people complain about the parking charges, but all of the downtown hotels charge
for this. You have to factor it into the price.
The room was very comfortable and quiet (we had a city view room) and the Aveda
toiletries were a nice touch. Our room did have an adjoining door, and as we had
kids with us, we checked with the front desk to see if the room was occupied -
it was empty, so it made us feel a bit better about the (fairly minor) noise our
kids made. The pool has a beautiful view of the city. Kids loved it! .
I did like the coffee bar setup they have in the lounge in the morning. Easy way
to grab a Starbucks and a light breakfast.
The only downside to this property is that it is a fair walk from the downtown
core and Pike Place. We usually stay at the Warwick which is not as luxurious,
but has a brilliant location.
All in all, great value for the price paid!

My husband and I love weekend trips and decided to go for luxury this time. I
wasn't impressed at all. First, they hit you with a $30/night parking fee and
explain if you don't like it, just move your car to the street. The rooms were
just large bedrooms. Nothing of elegance at all. There was nothing really wrong,
I just didn't think it was special. |
