On June 7, 1999, the WNBA announced Seattle as one of four expansion teams to begin play in the 2000 season In the franchise's fifth year of existence, the Storm broke through and won the WNBA Championship in three games over the Connecticut Sun, the city of Seattle's first professional championship in 25 years. The Seattle Storm play out of the Key Arena located in the Seattle Center, along with the Seattle Super Sonics Basketball Team Directions From Interstate 5 to the Key Arena Seattle: Take the Mercer Street exit from I-5 and follow the brown-and-white visitor's signs to the Seattle Center. KeyArena is located on the northwest corner of the grounds with street access along First Avenue North and cross streets Thomas and Republican. Public parking is available along First Avenue and Fifth Avenue North, Mercer Street, and throughout lower Queen Anne. If you are staying downtown, you can catch the Seattle Center Monorail that leaves Seattle Westlake Center Downtown (Pine Street between 4th and 5th) every 10 minutes. The Will Call window is located at the East Box Office facing the International Fountain and Center House and opens 90 minutes before tipoff. |
